Another New York Milestone... by Leroy Mikell

The feeling of not having anything new to put in my portfolio can subside a bit because I am clear to post both videos and yes photos of over a years worth of work.  Patience has been a hallmark virtue of my entire time here in New York.  I shot interview after interview product-shot after product-shot and video after video just to wait for the fateful day my first client and the site would be designed manufactured and readied for consumer eyes.

But finally the day has come.  The website for Boojuu (www.boojuu.com), a brand I have featured here on my site a few times over the last year or so is up and running.  While it is all well and good that Boojuu is available to the masses (www.boojuu.com).  I am happy because I was the primary photographer for the entire site.  Yes I shot my second brand this year!  I feel like NYC is shrinking to a more manageable size and I am putting pieces in place. (See my last post on patience lol) The photos are going over well from the feedback I have been receiving.  I plan to throw some behind the scenes stuff up both here and on social media over the next few weeks.

I really stretched my comfort and skill set to produce the body of work you will be seeing.  I linked up and learned from other creatives shot frame after frame dialing in a style specifically for this brand.

Over the last year I dealt with and struggled through learning curves differences in opinion and collaboration issues like remaining your own brand while working so closely with and for another brand.  I feel so blessed in this moment and burdened with the fact that I didn't set a large enough goal. This time I have to shoot for the moon I have to believe in myself so much more I have to tell others their opinion of me.  I really believe in the mantra "Work Hard, Be Nice"   I really believe I can be even better without being an ego-maniac.  I am rambling now so just look at photos visit www.boojuu.com the site shot by me and leave comments so I know you heard me.

Long long month. by Leroy Mikell

Transient

Since the last time we spoke my apartment has been burglarized I moved into another part of town, I set up a transfer to get myself moved into NYC later this month and made a contact to lay groundwork for an entry level position in a commercial studio in the city.

In the face of adversity I cried for a few minutes and continued to push forward with branding and I shot a wedding.  I reached back to high school for the update to my branding.  I used a company called Gorilla Ink out of Greenville South Carolina owned by LaRon Stewart.

I read an inspiring quote from none other than P-Diddy himself that read "strive for progress not perfection". It spoke to my last few months so I thought to share it with readers.

Other than the things mentioned above I would also like to share the new look to the Meant II Shine brand online identity.  My next steps are finishing the vinyl record business cards and getting printed materials with the new logos and word marks.

Enjoy the new work search for LaRon Stewart or Gorilla Ink on Facebook to see if he can help you.

I appreciate you for following this page and I promise photos soon.

Band Portraits and Big Lights by Leroy Mikell

Local jazz bands bring the soul to your event be it a Wedding reception or a Business luncheon they are the background sound getting all the attention.

The Lights are on and the people are watching.  I think the poster image or the way people are introduced to the artist band or business owner should be more than a glamorous mugshot.  Instead I would rather see the persons energy a freeze of a moment they were truly being themselves.  I try to bring something far more important than business as usual and the things that can be achieved after my subjects realize this is astounding.

I spoke about lights in the title because the people I shoot have to perform when people are watching.  It is apart of the job you can't be a business owner and let someone else lift the day to day weight or a musician and only sing in the shower when no one can hear.  These photos and the light I provide are designed to let people know what they are getting when they decide to watch you.
