Changing gears and it feels good. by Leroy Mikell

Today the issue of Ebony magazine hit the stands.  It features some of the work I have been doing with lighting and assisting in the city.  The reason I named this changing gears is because I was waiting for a bit of proof that I knew what I was talking about before trying to offer my hand at teaching.  I feel this publication serves as a cornerstone and social proof that I can perform on the level most aspire to.

That being said from here on out for a small nominal fee I will provide lighting diagrams and support via email until you get it right.  I am planning to keep with the emailing individuals until the volume is too much for me to handle.  I still have a job for now lol.

Every photographer needs a go-to lighting set-up that pops! I'm sharing one of my favorite lighting techniques, used on set with EBONY. You can achieve commercial worthy photos using this diagram. I'll tell you exactly where to place your camera, light, and subject for beautiful results.

- Excellent for editorial shoots, product shots, and modeling

- Minimal equipment required

- Basic studio lighting

Light Work by Leroy Mikell

If you have been wondering where I have been I am about to tell you!  I have been assisting regularly in the city! The Thursdays and Sunday I usually updating you guys were spent updating my skill set in real life.  You may also notice the slight rebranding taking place with the visuals on the site.  People way smarter than me (mainly my fiancé Brittany Dandy) said it needed to change so here we are with new logos new layout and same great flavor.  Before I tell you about a particular job and show you the photos I have some great news.

From here on out I will start providing lighting diagrams of the best shots from the work I do here in NY and my personal work.  Of course there will be a small nominal fee.  The idea is to show you where I am placing lights and the reasons I choose those spots.  I am really passionate about teaching so this is my way of doing it without going to get a masters in education.

I of course have to wait until I have social proof of my expertise so I will start the offering with my first published work.

Would you believe that the published thing actually happened today!  That is right we are in Ebony Magazine with a story on Sunglasses.  I am so excited to start sharing this work with you!  Next post will drop soon.

Great time Assisting in NYC by Leroy Mikell

It is such a wonderful feeling to walk in studios in New York and have your phone act like it has been there before by automatically connecting to the wi-fi.  I stepped back into the studio to assist Keith Major at GO Studios here in NY last week.

I just had to write a short blurb about the experience because the shoot was both fun and professional at the same D$$N time.  Outside of having to lower the music volume to be nice to neighbors in the surrounding shooting areas it was just a lively shoot and I think the clients are amazed and excited about their forthcoming images.

Of Course I cannot share the actual images from the shoot until they become available later in the year but I can give you a sneak peek behind the scenes with a video snippet and some shots of the studio spaces.  Here you go.

Selfie Game Strong by Leroy Mikell

I cooked up this beautiful light in my living room... I mean my studio excuse me.  My usual beautiful model and fiancé Brittany Dandy was feeling a bit under the weather so I decided to put on a sweater and hop in front of my own lens with my shutter release remote.  But I treated myself like I would do any of my other beauty and headshot clients and I got a few images that I really adore.  I am going to use one of these following images on my about me page.  Check these out and leave a comment follow me on Instagram and Facebook with the handle @PHAtographer so I can connect with you.
